STATE & FEDERAL CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNEYS

Let us handle your criminal defense case.

Has your criminal lawyer handled death penalty cases? We have. Injured or Arrested? We protect your rights. The Boustany Law Firm has handled everything from death penalty-capital murder cases to misdemeanors such as possession of marijuana. You will often see us in criminal courts throughout Southwest Louisiana, including State and Federal courts. Whether you have been charged with murder, drug trafficking, or a white-collar crime, the Boustany Law Firm will fight to protect your rights. We do that every day. We never back away from protecting the rights of those accused in State and Federal courts.

We normally give an initial consultation with one of the attorneys, without charge. We do that so the Boustany Law Firm can determine first, if we will accept the case, and second, what a fair fee will be if we accept the case. We determine a fair fee by getting basic information about the person and background, and about the matter for which you consulted us. This will let the person know in advance exactly what the fee will be, what we will do to earn that fee, and how it will be paid. We do this because we believe the interest of the client must always come first, and this is the fairest way for the client.

Time is often critical in a criminal case. After an arrest, the police normally prepare and send a report to the prosecutor’s office. This time immediately after the arrest is often the most critical because the prosecutor will be assigned and often will decide what charges to file. The formal charge can be more severe or less severe than that for which the person was arrested. The Boustany Law Firm prefers to begin here, and begin as early as possible, so that we can often meet with your prosecutor to give your side of what happened. This is especially important if your loved one is incarcerated because it can assist in trying to get you or your loved one released pending the outcome of the case.

If you are formally charged, you will receive an arraignment notice. This notice will be given to you, or delivered to the address you provided the police officer or the jail at the time of arrest. We will attend the arraignment with you, and we will guide you through the process every step of the way. In some jurisdictions, we may even be able to appear on your behalf, so you do not need to attend. Or, we may have you complete the arraignment in writing so neither of us has to attend.

After your arraignment, you may be required to go to court for dates such as pre-trials, status dates, pleas, and a trial. The Boustany Law Firm will be at your side for all of it.

As we work on the case, we want you to know that the Boustany Law Firm strives to provide the best legal services in a timely manner, because we are proud of our reputation for excellence.
